First in Iraqi history, unification of customs tariffs

Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi political and economic circles believe that the unification of customs
tariffs is one of the “positive” results between Baghdad and Arbil.

In the past, the Kurdish government used to impose an independent tariffs on the imported materials and keep the revenues for itself, which Baghdad objected for many years as illegal.

On the other hand, Baghdad used to have customs tariffs for itself for the goods and commodities coming from the Kurdish region, which are mostly coming from Turkey.

The observers believe that the past customs tariffs were “complicated”, but it is the first time in Iraqi history to have a unified customs between the two sides.

On the other hand, the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad Fatih Yeldiz disclosed a phone call with Iraqi finance minister Fouad Hussein on the unification of the customs tariffs at Ibrahim al-Khalil border crossing.

The new unified tariffs started on 16 February instant.
