Internal controversy on closing some PMFa’s units

Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces closed more than 15 military centers in
Baghdad during the past week under the pretext that they are “false centers that practiced actions incompatible with the goals of the PMFs”, though the leaders of these centers were very close to the Iraqi government during the war against Da’ish (ISIS) war.

The closed centers or units were supported by arms and funds by the Iraqi government, political circles said.

A special unit called “PMF Security Unit” made many raids inside Baghdad, where it confiscated equipment, records and arms from these centers, as well as arresting those who did not obey the order.

Observers believe that these actions is an attempt to “clean” the PMF from embezzlers and thieves, while others said that the move is to get rid of those who did not follow Iranian political line in Iraq.

The arrest of Ous al-Khafaji of Abu al-Fadh al-Abbas military unit stirred great popular debates in Iraq.
He had good relations with the field commander of PMFs Abu Mehdi al-Muhandis and he was registered within the lists of the PMF’s units, but lately was against following Iranian instructions.
