Fears of drought this year in Iraq

Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi politicians and water experts began sending warning of an expected
drought season this year.

They threatened that the southern parts of the country shall be the most to be affected with the lack of water for agricultural purposes.

The warnings were uttered when the time of filling the Turkish Alisu Dam is nearing this year, with expectations that both the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers shall be affected by this move.

Turkey is to start filling its Alisu dam this month, June, 2019, as officially reported.

Some of the experts called for closing dams in order no to permit the water goes to the Gulf.

Another group of experts do not believe that the heavy rains that hit the country last winter will help removing these fears.
